Erdbaron revolutionises the bulk solids industry: Open source database planned

Erdbaron is planning to convert its bulk materials database into a public open source platform. A survey is to clarify user interest. Manuel Albrecht emphasises the importance of customer requirements over and above the concerns of transport companies.
Erdbaron mit neuer Open Source Datenbank

Dear customers and business partners,

In a ground-breaking initiative, Erdbaron plans to transform its extensive database of bulk materials, which includes crushed stone, gravel, sand and other materials, into an open source platform. This would allow anyone to access information on suppliers and products across Germany. The database, which was previously used internally, is now to be made freely available to everyone.

Manuel Albrecht, Managing Director of Erdbaron, announced today that the company is launching a survey to gauge public interest in this innovation. "We discussed the issue internally today. Part of the team is critical of this and suspects that one or two transporters might take offence because they often deal with bulk goods," explained Albrecht. "However, I'm less interested in what the haulier wants; what's important to me is what our customers want. And that's what we try to deliver!"

The idea of designing the database as an open source platform comes with the vision of promoting transparency and accessibility in the industry. This would make it easier for users to make comparisons between different suppliers and find the cheapest or best quality offers directly. In addition, Erdbaron plans to generate revenue through targeted advertising on the platform, which is aimed at people interested in the industry and professionals.

This bold move could revolutionise the way business is done in the bulk solids industry by creating an open and connected environment that offers benefits for both consumers and suppliers. The decision to make the platform public is in line with the increasing trend towards digitalisation and openness in business.

Erdbaron invites all interested parties to take part in the survey and give their opinion on this innovative idea. Your feedback is crucial to ensure that the platform meets the needs and wishes of the users.

We look forward to embarking on this exciting journey together with you and look forward to your feedback.

Yours sincerely,
Your Erdbaron team

I find the idea of an open bulk materials database very exciting. It could significantly simplify the way we procure materials and reduce our costs. Hopefully the data will remain up to date, then that would be a really great thing.
